Peaky Blinders | The Redemption of Thomas Shelby

Written by: Steven Knight CBE
Production by: Rambert Dance
Directed by: Benoit Swan Pouffer
Filmed and Co-Produced for screen by: North South
Distribution: BBC Four commission + Theatrical + Rambert Plus Online

Inspired by the TV series produced and owned by Caryn Mandabach Productions, the ex-plosive and exhilarating performance has been adapted for the stage by Steven Knight and choreographed and directed by Rambert’s Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer.

The production features the full permanent Rambert dance company on stage, and a live band playing specially commissioned music and iconic Peaky tracks.

North South were co-producers on the filmed version which was captured at Birmingham Hippodrome over 3 days. The film will be broadcast on the BBC after a short cinema release.

We were able to bring the whole production back after it’s live stage run had ended. We turned the Hippodrome into a sound stage and over 3 days captured the show in a variety of ways using only 3 cameras and a very skilled crew. We collaborated closely with the shows Choreographer and Director Benoit to make sure his narrative and vision stayed true to what he had created while we created something specific for a screen audience.

“Now that our friends at the BBC and North South have captured the performance with such creativity and panache, we hope that more people will enjoy this phenomenal new template in how TV becomes stage then stage becomes TV again.”
